Background
Melville's Mug is Downtown Albany's newest upscale specialty coffee cafe. Located at 5 Clinton Square (across from the recently refurbished Palace Theater) in the heart of Albany's theater, arts & nightclub district, the name is based on Herman Melville, author of Moby Dick, who lived and studied at 3 Clinton Square as a boy during his formative years 1830-1838. Ambience is friendly and upscale offering top quality espresso based drinks and brewed coffee using filtered water (and ice!) from Green Mountain Coffee's extensive product selection. There is free wi-fi; flat panel hi-def TV, wood and tile floors, granite countertops, leather seating as well as table seating. Unique local pastries and top quality coffee drinks are the menu.
Keys to Success
New, friendly, and customer-oriented, Melville's Mug has taken the best from every different coffee option available (the names you would recognize and many you wouldn't) and selected the best of the best for Melville's customers. We hope that our friendly, diverse and unique staff will provide the best service and product to our new friends as they discover our beautiful new location and state of the art equipment combining the best ingredients to our customer's order.
Special Events
Melville's will be open before, during, and after all special events that take place in downtown Albany and will be offering discounts to theater goers, concert and event attendees merely by showing your program or ticket stub. Why shout over the din at the local taverns when you would prefer to sit and relax and converse in a beautiful setting over a great coffee drink and a dessert.
Target Customers
Local business people and commuters coming into Albany for work, school, and recreation. Night time arts and theater attendees. Anyone and everyone looking for a great espresso drink, brewed coffee or tea in a relaxing stylish, comfortable and friendly atmosphere.
Challenges Faced
Parking in downtown is horrible!!
Where We're Headed
We want to be named Albany's Best Coffeehouse within the year we open.
