The Coffee Ground - Where art is in the cup!

Background

The Coffee Ground opened for business October 1, 2005 in a new strip mall on the east side of Columbia Missouri near the Hwy 63 & Broadway interchange. Our specialties are quality coffee, tea and espresso beverages, fresh baked pastries, fresh roasted beans and a welcoming staff of expertly trained baristas and bakers. We maintain a Christian atmosphere with a variety of seating options (including covered sidewalk tables), music, and free wireless internet. Visit us online at www.mycoffeeground.com

Keys to Success

  • Our Customers!
Besides having a quality product our professional team of baristas truly care about the people that come into our establishment, and they show it in their work and their smile. Building relationship with the customer can be both personally and fiscally rewarding.
  • Latte Art!
Striving to achieve a beautiful rosetta or heart (or skull, or pumpkin or double, triple rosetta, you get the idea...) with each drink is our signature that the customer is receiving a quality drink: perfect crema and perfectly steamed milk is critical to creating latte art, so it serves as an excellent quality control tool as well.
  • Awesome Employees!
Did I mention our amazing team behind the counter already? Our baristas are top-notch in every way.

Special Events

We had a Dollar Latte Day on our 1 year Anniversary, and it was a huge success! We had a line at the door before we even opened on a Sunday morning. Our only advertising was color flyers we printed and handed out at the register a couple weeks before the event (I printed about 700 of them). In addition our die-hard employees posted them around town and on campus. We look forward to doing it again this year...

Target Customers

Being a College Town (three of them), Columbia (and of course The Coffee Ground) are quite student-friendly. However, we also have our share of professional, quality-minded customers on a regular basis. Our location is ideal for those traveling anywhere on the east side of town, or just passing through town on I-70 or Hwy 63...watch for our billboard or check your GPS to find we are on your way!

Challenges Faced

Road and building construction the first year we were opened was tremendously difficult. Most locals learned to avoid the area altogether for fear of the dreaded traffic jams, detours and closed entrances to our building. Locals are finally willing to venture into the area and now love the new look and ease of traffic flow around the area.

Where We're Headed

We expect to be THE "third place" (the place between work/school and home) for east Columbians to: gather with friends, check email, prepare for a long day ahead, unwind after a hard day, recharge in the middle of the afternoon, or stop by for a non-alcoholic decaf nightcap after a dinner nearby, always with the expectation of a perfect beverage from a cheerful barista at the counter.
